“‘If we were to observe an accelerated projection of the Earth’s four aeons, we would behold, in the plastic unfolding of this vertiginous film, Earth’s generative persistence, the emergence of intricate detail, and its reabsorption into the vast masses of elemental matter.’

Jorge Leandro Rosa, “As Formas da Terra” (The Shapes of the Earth) in Geomorfologia, Raiz Fasciculada (13),

Museu da Cidade (City Museum) - CM Porto, Dez. 2021

Attentiveness to the metamorphoses of water and the sculpting of the mountain village of Sabugueiro’s territory wove through the various moments of residency, across the changing seasons. The artist recorded the fog, the snow, the rain, the flows of the Covão do Urso, Fervença
and Alva streams, and immersed himself in it all. He focused on the relationship between these waters and geomorphology: from granite softened by river currents to the imprints of a glacial past that once shaped the land.
Poised between the seemingly static and the moving image, Suspensão e Vertigem [Suspension and Vertigo]; evokes the experience of that flowing landscape, influenced by the cyclical essence of water. In a limbo between definition and blur, erasure and regeneration, in a state of constant transformation that embodies the variability of this element.
Vertically, the opalescent photography imitates falling snow, leading the eye towards the inevitability of a vertiginous film. Constantly oscillating between being on the surface and being immersed, this vertigo; invokes a sensation of falling and a moving floor, attracted to this watery surface that opens up and moulds itself to welcome the entry of a body.
Granito em fluxo, focuses on the silent action of water that moulds the granite of Seia, characteristic of Serra da Estrela, revealing the different textures that emerge from that slow transformation.
Different temporalities and materials converge in these works, fascinated with the 'generative constancy of the Earth';, the potential of mediated experience (the film camera as an expanded eye) and, ultimately, video as a medium for sculpting time.
