Equinox 2025
Equinox is a video and sound installation that results from research carried out in the Bussaco National Forest, with the support of Aderno - Associação Cultural as an artistic residence. Through the experience in this ancient walled Carmelite desert, it reflects on the contradictions underlying this landscape: the same wall that defined a sacred place and allowed the biodiversity of the Forest to be preserved, excluded women from entering, under penalty of excommunication. Based on the transgression (actual or imagined) of Bernarda Ferreira de Lacerda, who in 1634 described life inside the hermitage and celebrated the forest's fauna and flora, a new body of work was developed, in which video emerges as a way of drawing attention to the place and its species, and whose editing aims to address the historical complexity of this place and its ecology: from the geological context (fossil flora present in the Serra do Bussaco), to the biological context (climax forest of Adernal and native species) to the cultural context (especially the walls of the Carmelite desert and their symbolism), exploring the synergies between them.
